Many people have asked the question “who is Jesus“. The bible states that Jesus is God. When the angel appeared to Mary, to tell her she would have a baby, she was told the baby shall be called Emmanuel. Emmanuel meaning God with us.
Jesus is part of the Godhead. The God head includes the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. According to Colossians 2:9 all of the Godhead dwell in Jesus’ bodily form. All three were present during creation. The bible states in John chapter 1, Ephesians 3:9, Hebrews 1:2, that the worlds were created by Jesus. Colossians 1:16 states that all things were created by him, and for him.
In Hebrews 1:8, Paul references God the Father saying, “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever.”
So one answer to ‘who is Jesus’ is Jesus is God.
Our Saviour God
The answer to the question ‘who is Jesus’ must include that He is our Saviour. That was the purpose for Jesus coming to this earth. Luke 2:11 (KJV) says, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
Through Adam and Eve’s disobedience sin entered into this world. Eternal death is the result of sin. Romans 6:23 (KJV) states, “the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Came to pay the penalty for our sins so we could have eternal life.
Before Jesus came to earth, people had to kill animals and symbolically transfer their sins to the animal sacrifice to atone for their sins. The animals sacrificed for sins included young bullocks, kids of goats, lambs, and rams. These animals could not have any imperfections. If the sinner was poor they could sacrifice turtledoves or young pigeons. Or if they could not provide even these they could bring fine flour. However these types of sacrifices could not provide eternal salvation for us.
Jesus was born to be our perfect sacrifice without spot or blemish. He did not use his own Godly power to live a sinless life, but used the power of the Holy Spirit. He spent a lot of time in prayer to obtain the power to live without sinning in his human form. This was his example to us; to show us how to live without sinning. We must be willing to surrender to the will of God as he was, and pray without ceasing for power to overcome as he did.
